How to play Pictionary

  1. Split into teams of two or more. Grab paper, a whiteboard, or a drawing app.
  2. The drawer presses the button and taps 'Hide word' before anyone else can see.
  3. Start the 60-second timer and draw. No letters, numbers or talking.
  4. The drawer's team shouts guesses. A correct guess before time runs out scores a point.
  5. Teams take turns. First to an agreed score, often 10, wins.

Questions people ask

How do you play Pictionary without the board game?

All you need is paper, pens and a word source. Use this generator for the words and the built-in timer, split into teams, and keep score on paper.

What are good Pictionary words?

Good Pictionary words are concrete enough to draw but not instantly obvious. For kids, simple objects like 'kite' or 'snail'. For adults, things like 'lighthouse', 'jet lag' or 'traffic jam' are fun because they need some creativity.

Can I play Pictionary online on Zoom?

Yes. The drawer uses this page to get a word, then shares a whiteboard (Zoom and Google Meet both have one) and draws while everyone guesses on the call.

Are there rules about what you can draw?

Standard rules: no letters, no numbers, no talking and no gestures. Symbols like arrows and question marks are usually allowed. Agree on that before you start.
